Apple TV TIPS: Jailbreak Apple TV 2 for Windows and Mac /w greenpois0n 1.0 RC6

Since some hours ago simple jailbreak software is available for both Windows and Mac computers to jailbreak your Apple TV (2010). It is called greenpois0n 1.0 RC6. See the post for RC5. Again, for newcomers: After using this software once, you can gain access to your Apple TV device. It allows you to install software and enable features which is not distributed by Apple.  After the jailbreak, you open the door to install media software like XBMC, PLEX  NITO TV and more. Q: What iDevices are supported beside the 2010 Apple TV?
A: Supported iDevices with greenpois0n 1.0 RC6
- iPod Touch 2G (all bootroms)
- iPod Touch 3G
- iPod Touch 4G
- iPad 1G
- iPhone 3Gs (all bootroms)
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4 Verizon (_not_tested_)

Q: What do I need to do the jailbreak? A: You need
- an 2nd generation Apple TV (2010) running iOS 4.2.1 4.1.1 (See settings/general/about/software version)
 - the power cable, do not plug in yet!
- the Apple Remote
- micro USB cable (like this microUSB Cable)
micro USB port on the Apple TV
- at least MacOSX 10.5 (OSX in a VM won't work) - OR for Windows - at least Windows XP
- a working internet connection
NOTE this version of greenpois0n doesn't include a patched activation system. You'll need to activate your device using iTunes
Q: How to do it? A:
1. Download your copy via greenpois0n.com

2. Only connect the USB cable to your Apple TV and PC or Mac.  - Do not connect the power yet.
But have your power cables ready -
3. Quit iTunes when it shows up
4. Execute greenpois0n RC6 on your PC or Mac
Follow the instructions,  the sequence will have the following order:

  • Plug AppleTV in to USB
  • Plug in power adapter
  • Press and hold MENU PLAY/PAUSE on the Apple Remote
5. Hit yes to confirm you are jailbreaking an Apple TV

6. Hit the Jailbreak button and follow the instructions.
NOTE: If the status shows complete, wait 40+ seconds before you continue
7. After completion, connect the jailbroken Apple TV to your TV set again.
8. Go to the Greenpois0n menu and select Inject Software to install Cydia. Read more about Cydia in my RC5 post
