The WolframAlpha app [App Store Link] is slashed from $50 down to $2. That is $48 less or 24 times less than the initial price. There was much critics about the $50 price. It felt wrong because the same computational knowledge engine for the web, was available for free. Fellow blog Techcrunch reports that WolframAlpha is also offering a full refund to anyone who did pay. Q But..what the hell is WolframAlpha? A: Okay, too fast I am sorry, Wolfram Research is building a computational knowledge engine called WolframAlpha for the web to be launched in May 2009. The product contains data in various fields including physical sciences, technology, geography, weather, cooking, business, music, etc. in order to provide answers to questions that users input. Its language interface will accommodate variations in how users frame their questions, such as the use of abbreviations. Wolfram Alpha's vision is to create a system which can do for formal knowledge (heuristics, algorithms, rules, methods, theorems, etc.) what search engines like Google have done for informal knowledge, such as text and documents.
