Stream Any YouTube Song On Your iPhone/iPod Touch With Muziic

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 06:31 PM PDT

streaming on iphoneIn recent years, YouTube has become a popular place for music. While they have signed licensing agreements with all four major record labels, YouTube has not yet been optimized for those interested in music. Muziic hopes to solve this problem.

Muziic is an application for the iPhone/iPod Touch that was developed by the father and son team of internet entrepreneurs Mark and David Nelson. The app provides an innovative approach to finding free – and legal – on-demand music for its users via YouTube and allows you to search for music and videos.

Aside from allowing you to browse YouTube, Muziic enables you to tune in to hundreds of internet radio stations, create playlists, tweet what you're listening to, and search songs and videos from iTunes. In this article, I'm going to go into more detail on Muziic's core features, as well as provide screen shots of the app's interface.

Muziic Home Screen

When you first open Muziic, you will see a home screen that lists all of your options for you. You can enter an artist or song title to search for, check out a list of featured tracks, connect to an internet radio station, listen to albums, or listen to a playlist.

stream on iphone

These are the core abilities of this app. Let's take a closer look at how each of these options pan out.

Featured Tracks & Search

When you first go to the Featured Tracks option, you are taken to a list of recent popular songs on YouTube. From there you can click on a song to add it to your playlist. Once on your playlist, simply click the song again to get it to play on YouTube.

stream on iphone

In the search box, if you type in the name of an artist or song and click the search icon you are taken to a similar list of songs matching your query. I typed in Lil Wayne and got several results. Again, you can add the desired songs to your playlist from here.

Internet Radio

Not sure what artists or songs you're in the mood for? Well, if you check out the Internet Radio screen, you can find hundreds of internet radio stations to choose from, spread out across multiple pages on the app.

stream on iphone

To help narrow your search you can make your selection by category. Some of the options include 70's, Alternative, Hard Rock, Oldies, etc. There are many to pick from.

When you make your selection you are taken to the station information screen and your music begins playing.

Albums

streaming on iphone

You can listen to entire music albums on the Albums screen. There are pictures of all the album covers and again you can search by category. When you click on an album you are taken to a list of all of the tracks and you can begin listening to them.

When Listening

While you're listening to music or watching videos on the app, you can connect to Twitter to tweet what you're listening to. Letting your followers know what you're listening to could help them get to know you better as well as support the artists you like via WOT (word of tweet).

Another good way to support your favorite artists is to purchase their songs/albums on iTunes, which can also be done from right within the app.

Conclusion

In summary, Muziic makes searching YouTube for music easy. Where in other iPhone/iPod Touch apps you might have to invidually search for YouTube songs as you're listening to them, Muziic's playlist feature and simple interface allows you to enjoy your music and save time.

What do you think of this app? Will you be using it?  Or do you know a better alternative? Leave your comments below.

Blidgets – How To Create Widgets That Promote Your Blog

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 04:31 PM PDT

Widgets have always been the marketing tool of choice for many software developers. They are very easy to package up and share with people because they are self contained and easy to implement. All the blogger or website owner has to do is paste the small snippet of code, and the widget is installed on their website.

For software promotion, the widget usually offers a scaled down application version or even a full featured tool with a link back to the developer’s website. As the widget gets used and shared, the developer receives traffic back to his or her website, and hopefully also receives some orders for paid software packages.

Bloggers can use the same marketing approach to draw traffic to their own blog. You can create a widget for your blog that consists of little more than a short clip of code that’s very easy to share and distribute. Many other bloggers or webmasters are always looking for interesting and well designed widgets they can add to the side menu bars.

So, if you learn how to create widgets to promote your blog, and if your widget has a decent design, you could potentially distribute it all throughout the web – with a link back to your own blog. In this article, I’m going to show you how you can use a tool offered by Widgetbox called Blidgets, which basically stands for “Blog Widgets,” to create a – you guessed it – widget of your blog.

How To Create Widgets Featuring Your Blog

The process to create your blog widget is surprisingly fast and simple. The Blidget wizard makes the procedure painless. You can use either a link to your blog’s feed, or just the blog URL. Either will work.

how to create widgets

Just fill in the URL field and click on the “Make Widget!” button. The Wizard automatically extracts the necessary information from your blog. I believe the first thing it checks for is the RSS feed, so if you have an RSS feed then the content of the widget will get laid out with a highlight of your recent posts.

how to create widgets

The next step, once the wizard has your default widget ready, is to customize the widget to look how you would like it to. There are many more features available if you purchase the pro version of Blidgets, but if you don’t mind Widgetbox inserting an ad in your widget, then stick with the free version. The free version defaults to the list view, which displays your most recent blog entry as well as the associated image (if your blog entry has one). The inclusion of an image can be removed, but I would recommend keeping it because it makes the widget look much better. The other style features in this section of the wizard are inactive for the free version, so you’ll have to stick with the defaults.

how to create widgets

Even with the free version, you can edit a few more things under step two of the wizard, titled “Look & Feel.” I especially like the fact that you can type in a short caption that lets people see what your blog is all about with a quick glance. Make this text intriguing or eye-catching so that you can get people to click on the widget and check out your blog.

create widgets

In step 3, you could remove your widget from the WidgetBox directory listing (but why would you want to?) Being listed in WidgetBox’s offerings opens up your blog to a whole new market of potential readers.

create widgets

Finally, select the thumbnail image that you’d like. This is the image that gets displayed at the top-left of the screen right next to the widget name, so make it something that represents the brand or topic of your blog. Make it something people will remember.

create widgets

Once you’re finished working your way through the Blidget wizard, you’ve just created and inserted a widget for your blog into the massive Widgetbox directory. The cool thing about this widget is that there’s a small scroll bar on the left which people can use to actually scroll down your feed of posts right within the widget itself. This way people can view the sort of topics you write about at your blog, which will help them decide whether or not they’d like to visit.

Creating widgets for your blog is fun, and best of all it’s free. You can create one for all of your blogs, or for any website that you like. Once you have your widget created, just share it out everyone you take part in a social network using the convenient buttons right on your Widgetbox listing.

Do you use widgets to advertise? Do you have any other cool tools that help you create a widget that advertises your website? Share your own resources in the comments section below.

3 Great Web Resources For The Model Railroader

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 02:31 PM PDT

Model railroading is a fun, rewarding hobby that takes a lot of patience and practice.  A good layout is both fulfilling to build and impressive to view.  Who doesn’t love a cool looking model railroad?

There is more to model railroading than just building layouts.  Some people focus on making historically accurate models, while others try to collect as many engines and stock cars as they can, others focus on “weathering,” the process of manually painting new engines or stock cars to make them look more realistic, even still, others like a combination of these aspects.

As enjoyable as model railroading is, sometimes, it can seem very overwhelming for beginners.  Questions like “Which companies are good?,”  “Where can I learn how to build layouts?,” “How should I design a layout?,” and “Where do I go to learn how to weather?” are all common.

A local hobby shop, especially one specializing in model railroading, would be a good first step for questions like these, but sometimes, that is not an option.  What if you do not have a local hobby shop, or what if the scope of your questions go beyond the knowledge of locals?

As you would expect, the internet has a bunch of useful information for model railroaders.  Here are some of the better sites and tools that will help the beginner get started and aide the veteran in even the most advanced endeavors.

Model Railroader Magazine

It should come as no surprise that one of the better tools on the internet for model railroaders is the website of Model Railroader Magazine.

I should say off the bat, to get access to most of the content, you need to register with the website.  The process is quick and painless, but for downloadable content, like layout plans and downloadable articles, you need a magazine subscription.

Despite this restriction, the website still has plenty to offer.  You can read articles about various aspects of model railroading.  There is even a very nice introduction article that lays out the basics of the hobby for a true beginner.

Some articles have neat videos of outstanding layouts.  Maybe watching some of those will spur your own imagination!

Overall, Model Railroader Magazine’s website is useful, despite some limitation.  But it is just the first stop in our trip through the web.

National Model Railroad Association

The National Model Railroad Association has a great website that is full featured and offers tons of resources for the model railroader in one location.

For the novice railroader, the website has a great beginner’s guide that goes into great depths to introduce you to all aspects of model railroading.  Just hit “Beginner’s Guide” on the left navigation bar.

As you can see from the contents, the guide goes to great lengths to inform the reader.  Who knows, maybe even a veteran can learn something.

The next biggest feature the website offers is the “Directory of Sites.”  This acts as a one stop shop for a model railroader on the web.  There is a hefty database of websites and software that hobbyists will find infinitely helpful.  Just click “Directory of Websites” on the left.

Clearly, NMRA has gone to great lengths to get together a comprehensive list of online resources for their hobby.

The website has a bunch of other features to attract visitors, including contest information, historical information, and community information to tickle your every model railroad fancy.

Walthers

In case you couldn’t tell, I had my model railroad phase a few years back.  Unfortunately, I was much younger and not nearly as tech savvy.  As such, I never utilized these resources as much as I could have.

One resource I did refer to a lot was Walthers, a catalog for everything model railroad.  If you have ever done any model railroading, you surely have heard of the paper catalog, but Walthers also has an extensive online catalog.

After a few minutes of browsing, you will quickly realize that Walthers’ website doesn’t have many bells and whistles.  It’s essentially an online version of their bare bones paper catalog.  This is not a bad thing.  If you need to find a particular car or engine, Walthers is probably going to have it.

Because of their extensive selection, Walther’s also has an effective search tool.  You can search by all sorts of areas including Scale, Manufacturer, or Item Number if you happen to know it.  The search is fast and thorough, returning the results organized by Manufacturer.

If you click on a result, you get a nice little profile describing the item and a big picture to help with your purchase.  This is true for many of the items on the website.

Walther’s is a great resource if you are out to buy anything related to creating model railroads, because it gives you a good point of comparison when it comes to price and a huge database of available products.

Unfortunately, good, up to date online resources for model railroad enthusiasts are pretty hard to find.  It seems that most railroaders prefer the social dynamic of model railroading.  Actually going to a hobby shop and talking with others who share their passion.

But slowly, model railroading is creeping onto the web so that anyone can get started in this fun and educational hobby.  Do you know of any other web resources for model railroaders?  Lets us know about them in the comments below.

10 Things You Should Know About Digicam Memory Cards

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 12:31 PM PDT

memory-cards-1.jpgOver the past ten years of the digital photography revolution, digital camera memory cards have become increasingly more affordable and larger. They are the film of digital photography, but thankfully a lot less expensive.

So what is the least you should know about digital camera memory cards? Here are my recommendations.

1. Types of Cards

There are three broad and popular types of memory cards for digital cameras:  CompactFlash (CS), Secure Digital (SD), and SmartMedia (SM). There are other variations of these cards, but the important thing to know, of course, is which type of card your digital camera uses.

For consumer cameras, only one type of card can be used, while a few of the top of the line professional DSLR cameras might allow for using both Compact and SM cards at the same time. It's probably best to stick to reputable memory card makers, which include Sandisk, Fuji, Lexa, Delkin, Viking, and Kingston.

memorycardtypes.jpg

2. Memory Capacity

Since most digital cameras on the market today start at 8 megapixels and higher, I recommend that your memory cards be at least 2 gigabytes or larger. A 2 gig SD card, for example, on my 12 megapixel Canon Powershot G9 can hold about 380 large JPEG size photos, but if I choose to shoot RAW format photos, that 2 gig card can only hold about 117 photos. If you on plan on shooting RAW photos with a 8+ megapixel camera, definitely use 4-8GB memory cards. The 256MB card that might have come with your new camera will not be large enough for most typical shoots.

memorysize.gif

After you insert your memory card into your camera, take a photo and then check the data on the camera's LCD screen to see how many images your card can hold based on the shooting mode (JPEG, RAW, TIFF, or Movie) that you're shooting. Also check the file size of the photo to how large each file might be on average.

B000J5LA9Q_pt03.gif

3. Number of Shots

The type of shooting you do can impact how many images your memory card can hold. Your camera may tell you that the card can hold 380 images, but depending on the exposure settings and resolution sizes for each image taken, the file sizes can vary, though not significantly.

4. Keep a Backup

Always keep a spare backup digital camera memory card. If your camera included a rudimentary small size memory card, tuck that card away in your camera bag and keep it solely as a backup. If you're using a 35mm camera with a nice size shoulder strap, you can purchase a small card holder attachment for your backup card. Thus if for any reason you fill up your main card(s) or forget to put your memory card back into your camera, you have the backup card with at all times. When you use that backup card, immediately put it back where you carry it for future use.

IMG_8092.JPG

5. Format Your Cards

You should always format your memory cards on your camera. Never erase them on your computer. Erasing a few photos at a time on your memory card is okay, but you frequently to reformat your card, especially after you have shot and exported a large number of photos to your computer.

6. Card Capacity

Avoid filling your card up to its capacity. If your card can hold 380 JPEG photos, you might want only shoot up to 350 images. Feeling a card to its capacity might cause the card to get corrupted.

7. Card Speed

If you're concerned about the speed of your digital card, you will want to check out its transfer rate. Cards can record images at rates of 4x, 10x, 40x, etc. Professional DSLR cameras need to faster capture rates than compact cards. See here for some information about memory card speeds.

8. Single Card vs. Many

If you're shooting a wedding or important travel photos where you only have one opportunity to capture images, avoid using large 8-16GB cards to hold all your photos. Memory cards can and do fail. If you put all your eggs into one basket, so to speak, you might end up losing all your photos.

If you're in the field, it's a good idea to have a portable memory card reader and capture device that you can use to copy your cards to. Personally, I don't like deleting images from my memory cards until I have them backed up at least twice. And even then, I might not reformat/erase images on the cards until my next photo shoot.

reformatng.JPG

9. Removing Cards

Of course you should never remove a card from a camera while it's writing images to it. It's best to turn off your camera and then pull out the card from its slot. With smaller SD cards, you also notice if there is outside damage being done to the card when it is inserted and removed from the camera.

10. Card Holder

If you have several cards for high level shooting, you should not only keep them secure in a memory card holder, but you should also label them with your name and phone number, and even number them for when you're shooting important events in which you might need to frequently change cards.

cardholder.jpg

Though in the last eight or so years that I have been shooting with digital cameras, I have never personally had a card fail on me, but cards do get corrupted. But when that happens, try not to panic. MUO has run several articles on image recovery software that you should bookmark and be aware of.

Let us know your experiences with digital camera memory cards. Have you had a card fail on you? Do you tend to shoot with large size cards or do you prefer shooting with several mid-size cards? Let us know your recommendations.

5 Websites With Strange & Unusual Facts

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 11:31 AM PDT

According to InterestingFacts, “the world’s tallest man ever recorded in the history of mankind, Robert Wadlow, was born in Alton, Illinois, in 1918, and was 6 feet tall by the time he was even eight years old. He suffered from the disorder Gigantism that makes the lower portions of the body extremely large, while the head and torso remain at normal sizes. This is caused by a pituitary gland tumor that excretes large amounts of growth hormone, resulting in the disorder that is technically called as acromegalic gigantism. He reached a final height of 8 feet 11 inches at the age of twenty-one years, and finally died of an inflamed leg.”

WOW.

Who collects all of these strange and unusual facts, and how do we know if it is true or not?

I love odd bits of trivia, and it is good to arm yourself with useless knowledge when someone starts talking politics.

News Of The Weird

My love for strange and unusual facts comes from time spent working for the US Senate as an intern. I didn’t have a wink of cash (the job is glamorous, cough cough, but doesn’t pay well).  The free City Paper in DC is a great source of information, is totally entertaining, and, ahem, it is free.  It reproduces a syndicated column called “News of the Weird,” and I loved reading the column while standing on the Metro.

When things got heated around the water cooler, it was prudent to whip out a useless fact like, “Hey, Julie!  Did you know that you can potty train farm pigs?”  This would lead to a discussion of the News of the Weird and the fighting duo or trio would be averted once again.

But what is most awesome about News of the Weird is that everything is TRUE.  The site is so well maintained that they move articles that aren’t so weird anymore.  They verify their information through police reports and other standard research documents.  So, the information is both weird AND true.  Sweet.

The Darwin Awards

Another funny (but true) site with strange and unusual facts is The Darwin Awards.  Their verified information honors “those who improve the species…by accidentally removing themselves from it!”

People that die because of stupidity are the main focus of this site, but they also cover near deaths, too.  I love the site because it tells you if a story is true or an urban legend.

Strange Facts

Another place to get strange information is at StrangeFacts.  While the overall graphics of the website are really chintzy, they have had some decent press by newspapers like USA Today.

This one almost didn’t make the list because it is hard to tell what is true and what is bumpkus. But, it is worth a mention because of its “strange laws” section (which tells you not to believe everything you read).

Interesting Facts!

Okay, let’s assume you aren’t into weird and morbid facts.  There are lots of great places to just get odd sorts of information. InterestingFacts is the best documented and diverse site among them.

You can browse through their different collection of facts (tallest man ever, pictured above) and you can submit a new fact, too.

They verify the facts to make sure they aren’t bumpkus and then post them on the site if they are legit.

The random nature is a hoot, too!

Strange & Unusual References

The final site worth viewing is a reference site called Strange and Unusual References.

What I love most about this site is that there are strange and unusual facts here that aren’t found on any other site.  Seriously….all vowel words?

The nice part about this website is that you you can also download free ebooks, too, about some of the topics.  So, as Eddie says in  National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, “it is the gift that keeps on givin’”

Another piece of virtual goodness is that this site seems to aim at teaching you something.  For example, I learned about the difference between a blank map and a blank page in an atlas.

The Final Word

Sharing strange information is a great way of bonding, but be sure to get your facts straight before running off to seek fame and fortune.  It might be true that “truth is stranger than fiction” but it is up to the reader to be sure that the truth is, well, true!

Hunting down strange (but true) information is tough.  Do you have any weird sites to share?

How To Make a Vision Board On Your Desktop For Your Life Goals

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 10:31 AM PDT

how to create a vision boardI gave this post a lot of thought. After all, how many pragmatists out there believe in the strategy of visualizing one's life goals?

A Vision Board or as some people call it, a Dream Board is something that's based on the 'Law of Attraction'. The 'Law of Attraction' says that whatever you think of with focused intent, comes true with time.

A vision board quite simply, is a collage of pictures, stuck up as a poster or in a scrapbook. Each picture that goes into the project when you make your own vision board stands for something you want in your life.

Like a picture of your dream house, or an ideal vacation you want to take. The thought behind the whole process is that, the more specific you are with your vision of what you want to achieve, the better your chances of grasping it one day.

On one level, the concept of a vision board can be cast away as pseudo-psycho babble. But creating collages or stringing together pictures to illustrate something specifically have always been a part of our learning process. We learnt it as kids. It's only as adults we have forgotten the goal setting power that can be in an image.

So how do we do away with the scissors and glue for a digital version of a vision board?  Let's try to make our own vision board with a free software called Ript.

Ript is a freeware tool that's actually meant to rip images and text from the web and your computer as easily as you can cut them out from your favorite magazines. Ript is quite a serious tool for collecting and collating information that's all around in our digital world. As the homepage of the site mentions, Ript is part scrapbook, part to-do list.

That's just the combo we need to use Ript as a visual goal setting tool. But first a few basics on Ript :

Ript can grab any type of image from a webpage or any other file, text from all kinds of files and individual frames from Flash movies. So, that means we can screen grab everything apart from full videos.

This is how Ript looks like on our desktop. The main interface is called the Tabletop

make your own vision board

The Pile is the tool for capturing content. To rip an image (also called a scrap), click on the image and drag it to the Pile. To rip a block of text from a webpage, or from a file on your computer, highlight the text and drag it to the Pile. A new text scrap can be inserted anywhere (without ripping anything) by typing the text.

Image and text scraps can be used to create as many Pages as we want. Pages can also be printed or shared with friends (as JPG or as a RIPT file) via an email. Pages are also viewable in The Light Box that's the area down below.

Making My Own First Vision Board

I have a dream of travelling around the world. So let me just travel around the virtual world and grab a few dreamy pictures of the places I would like to go to. My first stop – Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown, New Zealand. I get the image from Flickr into my vision board by simply dragging it into the Pile tool that's on the bottom right corner of the desktop.

make your own vision board

With the scrap on my first page, I can resize, rotate, change the location or sort the scrap(s) in any which way. But first, let me add some information about the place by clicking on the little Info icon. Ript flips the image over.

make your own vision board

I can rename the image name and add my own descriptive notes in the Notes box. Ript also saves the link of the source file.

Ripping several images gives me a vision of vacationing in New Zealand to think and dream about. Adding a few lines of text can make it a bit more descriptive. The zoom slider can be used to blow up the pictures on the page. That's it…my first vision board is ready.

how to create a vision board

The idea of using Ript as a vision board is just one that came from the top of my head. As originally intended, Ript is a very useful tool to gather information and arrange it like a corkboard. The simple drag and drop style of gathering content makes it a rapid tool for lumping together information.

Ript is in beta, so there will be some desirables from users like you and me.

An addition of text formatting functions would be a notch for user control. I sometimes also kept wishing that I could grab the screenshot of an entire page. Or, how about a slideshow feature as the tool is built around collecting images so slickly?

The list of desirables is growing longer so here are the limitations that come with the software right now.

Ript works best with Internet Explorer. With Firefox, problems arise while ripping frames from Flash movies. But as Ript is in Public Beta right now, these creases should be ironed out with time.

Let us know if you have cared to make your own vision board for your life goals and where you see Ript fitting in.

Ript (Beta) is a 8.7MB download for Windows XP and Vista.

Diddit Tracks & Helps You To Find New Achievements in Life

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 09:31 AM PDT

A bucket list makes up the things you want to achieve before you die. The contents are different, often very personal, and sometimes downright ludicrous. Not that it matters.

Almost everyone has a bucket list, albeit unconsciously. Learn a foreign language, get a novel published, or travel around the world to taste strange fruits fresh off the trees.

These ‘achievements’ are what we strive for, and checking another item on your list gives a sense of peace and fulfillment. It’s only natural to keep track of important achievements in life, and yet few people do.

Diddit

I had already given a few shots to my own bucket list, before I read about Diddit: an online community built around life’s achievements. The idea almost sounds silly, and yet I anguish that I didn’t know about it before.

The experience is threefold. At the core, Diddit can be used to keep track of your own bucket list, marking important achievements in life you’ve already managed to do, and planning ahead for future adventures. This core is embraced by a diverse and multicultural community. Diddit connects people with similar achievements or goals, and makes up the campfire where people gather round to discuss past experiences.

Keeping Track Of Life

As I said, the core of Diddit is a to-do list for life. You can use it to mark off everything you’ve ever done, experienced or tasted in your life, as some kind of achievement tracker. More importantly, you can also use it to make a list of things that yet need to happen.

Finding marks on Diddit is pretty easy. You can browse categories or, if you’ve got something specific in mind, search for the item in your mind. In categoric view, you’ll also encounter so-called lists. These lists, created and expanded by the community, usually harbor achievements with a common denominator, reflecting on a certain ‘niche’ of life.

Activities can either be marked ‘wanna’ or ‘diddit’. Having completed an activity allows you to rate and comment on your experience.

Once you’ve marked a number of activities, you can start to use Diddit as a reference tool. In the ‘you’ tab of the site, you’ll be able to review your wanna’s and diddit’s, perhaps while planning for your next intercontinental vacation, or sitting bored at home.

Read & Share Stories

Most activities have at least a few enthusiastic comments, save perhaps the most extravagant ones. When you’re planning for something, it helps to read the experiences of others. Similarly, it’s never dull to write and share your own stories.

The talk section is also where you’ll meet people with similar interests. Like Facebook connects old friends, Diddit is the meeting place for doers. When you’ve got family, colleagues, or friends on Diddit, you’ll get to see these activities on a whole new level.

Diddit is a generic online bucket list, used to track, plan and discuss the biggest adventures of your life. Do you know any other tool that we should know about, or do you prefer plain old pen and paper? Tell us about it in the comments section below!

Let’s Kill Some Time – & Some Enemies – With Final Ninja

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 08:31 AM PDT

ninjaHeadIt looks like it is time for another awesome Flash game. I last covered Raft Wars here. Some of you said you wanted something a little more action packed and here it is!

I always like to warn the readers to beware of the time that it will kill. Once you start playing there will be no stopping you. After all we all love to play a Ninja game right?

Well I love Ninja games and when I get some spare time I go looking for a new and interesting ninja game. Maybe it was growing up with Batman who was trained by the Ninja or maybe it was all those years of dressing up as a Ninja (sometimes for Halloween and sometimes not!). Either way I am a big fan!

Today I came across a game called Final Ninja which you can get to by clicking on this link. Final Ninja is a side scrolling Ninja action game. It is a fast paced game that involves a lot of jumping, shooting and other Ninja like activities.

If you like to play Ninja games and the old school game Ninja Gaiden then you will love this. There is wall bouncing, enemy killing action. And don't forget the great Kung-Fu like story line…

Lets take a look at how to play before we jump into it and get sliced up. By clicking on Help, you will be walked through the instructions:

The arrow keys Up, Down, Left and Right can be used to move or the more popular W, A , S, D can be used instead. A and D will help you run left and right and W will make your Ninja jump straight up.

You use your mouse to shoot ninja stars by pointing and clicking. You can hold down the mouse button to launch a grappling hook that you can climb or swing on.

You use the normal directional keys to move up and down or left and right on the rope. Moving left or right will cause you to swing. This is very handy in some situations which you shall see as you play the game.

The next instructional screen shows you that you will automatically jump up when you get to the top of your rope. You can also manipulate the ninja to move left or right while jumping (with the arrow keys). Alright, alright, enough with the training let's go kick some serious butt – ninja style.

Click on Play to start the game. You will see the following screen that allows you to choose your board. In the beginning you will only have one choice – obviously board one!

Click on 01 and the game will begin. We will watch the introduction tell us about Takeshi and Akuma. We watch as our Ninja embarks on his final mission ; hence the name Final Ninja! We see our hero crouching down in our first scene as you can see below:

The buttons on the top right hand side of the screen are for help, pause, music (on or off) and Sound Effects (on or off). Start off by holding down the right arrow to move along and hit those question mark clouds. They will go over how to play and get you to test out firing your rope and throwing in old kung fu quotes like I move through the air like a deadly sparrow of death. Sparrow of death?

Ok… Let's keep it moving!

fn4

Move the mouse up towards the top right hand side of the screen and it will start to scroll with you as you find the "This Way" sign. Go ahead and click on it and hold down the mouse.

fn5

Move the mouse from left to right to build momentum and then release, click and hold on the next this way sign to move along to our goal. You will pick up money along the way and you will hold down the up arrow to jump. The harder you hold it down the higher you will go. Follow your ninja instructions and may the force be with you. Oh wait that's Star Wars….uhhh may the ninja star be with you.

Enjoy and if you have a favorite online free game; please share it with us!
