7 Ways To Properly Dispose Of Those Old Cell Phones

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 05:31 PM PST

As time goes on and cell phones are more widely used, we seem to be more and more inundated with unused, outdated but perfectly usable phones.  You know where I’m coming from don’t you? You have one (or more) of those junk drawers packed full of phones and peripherals not being used!  Wouldn’t you like to find a way to either put them to use or to get rid of them properly?

I have come up with 7 ways of either putting them to use or properly disposing of them.  If you can add to the list, please do!

Keep It & Use It!

1. Pocket Watch

oldcellphone.2

It occurred to me that I haven’t worn an actual watch for quite some time.  Why is that?  Is it because I am so poor that I can’t even afford a cheapo watch?  No.  Is it because I find watches uncomfortable?  Probably partially but that’s also not the real reason.  The reason is because I don’t need one because my cell phone keeps better time!

Well those unused phones could prove handy if your power goes off and on and your wall clock is reset.  Have one charged and available and you’ll always have the proper time whether or not you actually have a cell phone plan!

2. Flashlight

oldcellphone.3

Have you ever found yourself waking up in the middle of the night thirsty and stumbling across the whole house in the dark to find the fridge?  I know I have.  Also I work nights and sometimes I want to find my way to bed when I get home after dark without turning on the overhead light waking my wife up.

Well, the solution is that soft light that your cell phone emits!  Instead of paying for a flashlight or something similar, why not just put that old cell phone back to work?  Most cell phones put off just enough soft light to at least see where you are going.  Besides they usually fit right in your pocket!

3. Digital Camera

oldcellphone.4

Everyone likes digital cameras, right?  They’re handy when you’re in a pinch and something comes up all of a sudden that you don’t want to miss.  These days, it seems that most cell phones, even somewhat older ones, have digital cameras built right in.  Surely some of the many unused cell phones you are hoarding has some type of camera built in.

Even if you can’t afford a cell phone plan, you can at least use the camera, right?  Find one that accepts an external card or USB cord so you can retrieve those photos.

4. 911 Emergency Phone

oldcellphone.5

At least in the US, all cell phone carriers are supposed to design their phones to be able to access 911, whether or not they are activated.  What does that mean for us?  Any phone we have lying around should be able to dial 911 in an emergency.  This can come in handy in many different situations.

One such situation would be anytime you are driving.  Why not keep a phone charged and in the glove box just in case?  Also, since you already keep that unactivated phone by your bed as a flashlight, just remember that in the case of a midnight intruder, the phone will double as an emergency 911 phone.  This handy feature will come in handy further down the list!

Properly dispose of it!

5.  Sell It For Cash

oldcellphone.6

If you have all of those cell phones just sitting in that drawer, why not get a little extra cash for them?  Someone will actually buy used phones from me?  Yes they will!  Besides selling them on sites like eBay, here are several articles written here on MakeUseOf showing just how and where to sell your cells :

6. Donate It

oldcellphone.7

There are many organizations that will take your unused cell phones off you.  For instance, women’s shelters can use them as emergency phones for women in abusive situations to call 911 in the case of an emergency.  Also, senior centers and senior citizens can make use of them for the same reason (check out CharityGuide for some more information).

Then there are also organizations who will accept them and sell them to recycling centers to use the funds for some type of charity (check out Cell Phones for Soldiers as an example).

Want to do something good for someone else while getting rid of your cell phone clutter?  Now you have no excuse!

7. Return It

oldcellphone.8

In many cases the store that you bought the phone from is obligated to receive it back again.  In some areas, retailers that sell electronic equipment need to be able to expose of it also.  Many of them will recycle or donate them for you.  This option of disposal is probably the easiest but comes with the least reward.  So it’s up to you.

There you have it!  7 things to do with those old cell phones you have sitting around.  Hey, and as a bonus, James has previously written an article about how to use your cell phone as a copy machine.  This can also work with unused cell phones if you have a way to get the images off them so add this to the list someplace.

Like I said, if you can add to this list, many could benefit from your wisdom.  What other things could someone do with old cell phones?

Top 5 Sites With Scary Stuff That Makes You Jump

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 03:31 PM PST

scary gross stuffIf you’ve never been scared by a pop-up video prank and you scare easily, then I suggest that you turn back now. If you’ve had the old pop-up prank played on you, or you were searching for scary stuff that makes you jump and you came across one of these, then you probably know what to expect. Ever since ghost hunting became popular and ghost hunters started posting their videos of paranormal activity on YouTube and other video hosting sites, pranksters started developing parody videos that not only mock those ghost videos, but they also scare the pants off most viewers.

If you’ve seen these videos, then you know what to expect. Usually the scene starts with calm serene scenery, like the famous car commercial with a luxury car driving along a curvy mountainside road. Then, suddenly and horrifyingly without warning, the scene flashes to a large close-up image of a gruesome face.

The earliest scary pop-up videos made use of images like the possessed girl from The Exorcist. Over time, more pranksters have created videos using all sorts of horrible images, not only from various horror films, but sometimes even images they’ve developed themselves. There’s one thing all of these sites have in common – they all feature extremely scary stuff that makes you jump worse than you’ve ever experienced before.

So if you’re brave enough, brace yourself and let’s take a look at five of the best sites for these videos.

Get Ready – Scary Stuff That Makes You Jump

I’m not kidding when I write that these scary videos will make you jump. I’ve seen people go flying back in their chairs, and even run backwards across the room screaming, just to get away from the computer screen. That’s how scary some of these videos are, so if you have a weak heart or otherwise scare easily, consider yourself warned!

The first website is ScaryAndFun. This site has the best collection of scary content that I’ve seen, organized into categories like flash games, pictures, pop-ups, advertisements and more – all organized in the left menu. If you don’t believe that an online video could possibly scare you, just take a look at the advertisement clip labeled “Yoga Tranquility.”

scary stuff that makes you jump

This innocent-sounding 19 second clip starts off with one of the most beautiful and serene scenes you could imagine – a person doing slow Yoga moves on the very top of a mountain. Then, as you really get relaxed from the great imagery and background music, suddenly some sort of zombie appears in close-up in front of the screen.

scary stuff that makes you jump

While this one might make you jump just from the surprise of seeing something so deformed appear within a beautiful scene, this one is actually one of the more tame ones. There are others are are far worse because the image that appears is much more clear and very gross.

The next site that deserves a mention is ManiacWorld. This website is another decent-sized collection of scary stuff organized into sections like scary games, scary pictures and of course scary videos and pranks.

scary stuff that makes you jump

By the way, see that selection titled “The Scary Maze Game” at the top? That is currently one of the most popular scary pop-up games that takes your friend through four levels of a maze that forces them to concentrate, and then after the last level they’re treated to a wonderful closeup of the Exorcist girl. And the Color Blind Test is almost as bad. It takes you through a few levels of a typical color blindness test, and provides your results after each level. After the last and most difficult test, when you hit “submit” you’re treated to a view that’s sure to make anyone jump out of their socks.

scary freaky stuff

Sure, it’s a pretty bad makeup job and the photo is completely out of focus – but when you’re unprepared for the sight, it’s enough to nearly give anyone a heart attack.

Another good website with a very good-sized collection of these terrifying images and videos is Winterrowd. Just the section of scary games has several pages of freaky games just like the example above.

scary freaky stuff

One of the funniest ones at this site is a video titled “Click Here to See Megan Fox Topless.” Of course, what red-blooded male wouldn’t click on the link just out of pure curiosity? Sure enough, your reward for your curiosity is a very slow-loading image of Megan Fox, and just as the image load gets to the “good part,” you’re treated to the following image.

scary freaky stuff

Now that’s a B-movie image that’s sure to kill the mood faster than a cold shower. Where do they come up with this stuff? Surprisingly, one of the best collections that I’ve seen for most of the more popular freaky pop-up videos and games online is actually ScaryForKids – a website devoted to providing scary content to kids. The website seems a bit morbid, but the truth is, kids are searching for this sort of stuff in droves – most likely to play pranks on each other of course!

scary gross stuff

These are all the best of the best freaky videos, games and clips that are proven “shockers” that will get your unsuspecting victims flying out of their seats in complete terror.

Of course, the king of all scary pop-up websites is also the site that leads all others in sheer volume of video content – YouTube. I actually first stumbled upon most of these prank videos during my YouTube searches for ghost videos. Turns out that if you search YouTube for “scary popup,” you’ll discover mostly all of the freaky pop-up videos in existence.

scary gross stuff

Click on any one of the results to check them out – but a word of advice: if you don’t want to get totally shocked, just slide the image mostly off the screen, or pause it and move the slider across so that you control the speed of the video. This might at least dampen the effect a little. Either way, the image still won’t be pleasant.

Another angle you can take if you want a more unique scary pop-up video to prank your friends is to create your own movie and embed a really scary image into it. Most of the websites mentioned above have sections that offer scary images, and you can embed any of those into your own video.

Do you know of any other scary prank websites? Have you ever been “pranked” by a friend with one of these? Tell us about it in the comments section below.

The Top 10 Useful Free Apps For Your Jailbroken iPhone [Cydia]

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 01:31 PM PST

CydiaSo you’ve taken the plunge and jailbroken your iPhone. If you’ve taken a look at all of the apps that are now available to you, there are an overwhelming number for you to choose from.

A number of alternative iPhone app stores are available for your jailbroken iPhone, the largest and best supported of which is Cydia. Both free and for-pay apps are available via the Cydia store, and many are featured on the homepage of Cydia.

Below is a list of the best free Cydia apps that I have found useful so far. If you have a favorite which I have neglected to mention, make sure to post the app name and why you find it useful down in the comment area below!

Cycorder

Cycorder

Apple claims that video recording is only available on the iPhone 3GS. This program proves that video is not only possible on the iPhone 3G, it looks pretty damn good and Apple just chose not to include it.

While this program is free, it does include an ad on the side of the videorecorder screen. Also, it shows how much space you have available to record video and how long your current video has been recording. The quality of the video is not as great as the video captured from a 3GS, but it is bearable as long as there is enough light.

Backgrounder

Backgrounder

One of the most common complaints about the iPhone is that you cannot run any programs in the background. Backgrounder changes this fact. It allows you to run any program in the background by simply holding down the home button while the app is open. It also provides options to place a small icon on the corner of apps that are running in the background so you know what is going on.

Running apps in the background will drain your battery more than normal, however there are a couple of programs which really benefit from running all of the time.

Qik

Qik

Similar to Cycorder, this is another video recording app. Unlike Cycorder, this actually streams video in near-real time to the Qik servers. This software essentially puts a live video camera in your pocket, meaning you can broadcast live video out to everyone or just to your family and friends. The quality of the video is decent, and depends partially on how strong your connection is to the wireless cell phone network or even better if you are using Wi-Fi.

The video quality will scale depending on the quality of your network connection. As long as your 3G signal is decent, it is able to broadcast with little delay.

PdaNet

PDANet

Tethering, need I say more? AT&T doesn’t even offer this yet with the iPhone, due to fears its network will be overloaded. Other providers worldwide charge extra for this feature, even though you are usually paying for unlimited data.

However this app, available via the Cydia store, allows you to tether your computer to your iPhone using either an ad-hoc wireless network or through the USB connection. For free. The program includes a 14-day full free trial, after which only HTTP connections will work.

Siphone

Siphone

SIP (Session Initialization Protocol) is how many VoIP providers connect to hardware and software phones. It is a widely used protocol to allow you to make phone calls over the internet, independent of your physical network connection. One large provider which allows SIP connectivity is Gizmo5, which Google recently bought. If you are lucky enough to have Gizmo5 you can actually receive free calls via your Google Voice account to the Gizmo5 account, which you can then connect to via Siphone.

If you have any SIP account whatsover, you can use Siphone to bypass the cellular network completely, allowing you to use less minutes. Between this and the Backgrounder app covered above, you can replace the iPhone dialer completely.

After testing a number of SIP applications from both the real iPhone App store and the Cydia store, Siphone is the one that I’ve found works out of the box and is reliable enough to use as a real SIP extension.

asBattery

springboard

This program does one thing, and one thing only – it adds the remaining battery percentage to the bar at the top of your phone. This gives you a better idea if you need to throw your phone on the charger or wait out the end of the day on your current charge. Or maybe it just scratches that itch that someone like me needs to know about the current status of the battery of his/her phone.

iLocalis

iLocalis

All of those cool things that MobileMe can do? iLocalis can do them better. iLocalis can not only track your iPhone’s location and report it on their website, but it also can report it to Twitter. You can send remote commands to your iPhone, send SMS messages from it (handy in case someone has stolen your phone), and more.

There is a 10 day free trial, and after that you can pay for either a Basic or a Premium account which has even more features like remote wipe and remote audio recordings.

AptBackup

AptBackup

This program is simple but is immensely useful if you jailbreak your phone. It backs up your installed Cydia programs into the area of the iPhone’s memory that is backed up when you sync with iTunes, and then it can restore the apps from that backup if your phone has been reset – for example when you upgrade your firmware and need to re-jailbreak your phone. It will save you so much time that you will wonder what you did before you used it!

SBSettings

SBSettings

This is the must-have app for tweaking your iPhone settings. It adds a ‘quick’ config screen by swiping the status bar at the top of your screen, giving you options such as turning on/off the phone, Wi-Fi, GPS, etc. Through the various other screens, you can reboot your phone, shut it down, and configure other options not available via the normal ‘Settings’ app. Highly recommended.

Winterboard

Winterboard

Theming your phone is impossible with an unjailbroken iPhone. There are several theming packages available, however I’ve found that Winterboard is the most flexible and has the most vibrant and active community for developing themes.

You can change just about every aspect of your phone, from the call screen to your springboard and lock screen. After installing Winterboard, you can browse the other Cydia programs available for various other themes for your phone.

I am currently using the “Matte Nano” theme, which I highly recommend and which you see in the screenshots on this post.

And More…

This list just scratches the surface as to the available programs from the Cydia store. Depending on your intended usage of your iPhone, you can change just about anything to make your iPhone useful once more. The programs available from the Cydia store turn your iPhone into what it should be.

If you are looking for instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone, that is past the scope of this article. You may want to check out the useful guides over on iClarified for the different iPhone jailbreaking programs and platforms. While there is certainly a slight risk involved in jailbreaking your phone, you can see a few of the many benefits from the programs listed above.   Or check out two of our articles, Damien’s on jailbreaking a 3G phone and AppSnapp which was featured in the Directory.

Make sure to post any Cydia applications that you find useful and that I missed in the comments below!

RadioTime – Listen To & Record FM Radio Online

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 11:31 AM PST

listen to radio onlineI have nothing against Internet radio stations. In fact, I love to listen to radio online, and here at MakeUseOf, writers have covered a multitude of awesome applications you can use to listen to and even broadcast Internet radio stations. Travis reviewed FilterMusic, Sandra covered Screamer, Musicovery and RhythmBox, and Grant covered Pandora. Jason even showed you how to make your own radio station with Shoutcast.

All of these are fantastic apps for Internet radio, but what do you do when you have a bunch of local FM radio stations that you love, and you’re working at a computer where there’s no access to a regular AM/FM radio?

The answer is RadioTime. These days the majority of FM radio stations stream their broadcasts over the Internet. It’s very difficult (if even possible) with most Internet radio players to find your local FM streams amid the huge collection of Irish folk music or FM radio stations from Bangladesh. I’ve nothing against Irish folk music or Bangladesh, but there has to be an easier way to get easy, organized access to FM radio stations when you want to listen to radio online. This is exactly what RadioTime does.

Use Your Browser to Listen to FM Radio Online

The simplicity, yet effectiveness, of this website and application is what attracted me to it immediately. It offers a directory of over 10,000 worldwide FM radio stations to choose from, so I’ll bet the odds are pretty good that they have your local favorite in their directory.

listen to radio online

Once you register (for free) and provide your local area, the system automatically offers links for all of the local stations near you.

listen to radio online

I was pretty psyched to see my favorite local station that I listen to when I drive in to work – 93.1 WMGX! So I clicked on the “Listen” button and fired up the player app while finishing the rest of this article.

online radio listen live

While the browser-based player is great, and you can click on the “Presets” menu option to review your preset stations from any computer in the world with an Internet connection, Radiotime also offers a very cool free app called RedButton that lets you not only listen to your favorite radio stations, but you can also record them! The record option isn’t free, but listening to your favorite stations and managing your favorites is unlimited and free.

Use RedButton To Listen To FM Radio Online

Once you install RedButton you’ll see that the interface is well laid out and easy to use. It provides a simple navigation bar on the left with a large center display and the controls and presets at the top.

online radio listen live

Clicking on the radio guide, I wanted to see if I could listen to the popular paranormal radio show “Coast to Coast AM,” and sure enough, it popped up at the very top of the list with the option to either listen, schedule a recording of the show (yes!), or add the station to your list of presets. This means that it no longer matters whether or not a particular show is available in your area, you can listen to that FM radio station anywhere in the world.

Do you have a friend who’s a DJ at a local radio station in Denver, but you live in New York? Now you can tune in over the Internet and listen in to his show!

online radio listen live

The controls are very simple and easy to use, with the current station name and information at the top and the volume and controls just beneath it.

online free radio

If you like the station that you’ve found, just click and hold the preset button on the upper right of the player and you’ll never have to remember the station again!

online free radio

The coolest part of the app (which is, unfortunately also the feature you have to pay for) is the recording option. When you first install the app, you get 14 days of station recording for free. After that you have to pay to enable the feature. With recording, you can configure your recorded MP3 files to get stored in whatever folder or location that you like.

If you want all of the computers on your home network to have access to the music, I would suggest using something like Sugarsync to do so. If you want to access your recordings over the Internet at locations other than your house, then you can upload the recordings to a network like Maestro, which Tim covered earlier.

online free radio

The one drawback with the system is that even though it organizes and collects all AM and FM radio stations into one spot where you can access them, not all stations stream their broadcasts online. In order to still access all of your favorite local stations through this app, you can purchase a USB radio antenna, hook it up, and then configure it in the RedButton app as shown above. Once you have RedButton set up, you’ll never use another application to listen to the radio online. This software really does have it all.

Do you listen to the radio while you’re online? What are your favorite applications to do so? Share your opinions in the comments section below.

3 Ways to Organize & De-Clutter Your Windows Desktop

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 09:31 AM PST

Everyone sans the cleanliness freaks would agree with me on the two most cluttered and unorganized folders on our computers these days – the desktop and/or the downloads folder. Well the downloads folder if you are a download junkie like me.

Ever wondered why it is that the desktop gets cluttered very easily? Maybe because it is the one folder that is visible and easily accessible. So you end up putting everything you think you need on there, not realizing that most of them will only be needed once or twice in a week. I mean really – take out the web browsers, an important document or two, perhaps the ‘computer’ icon and what else do you need on the desktop?

For the download junkies – there is the Automatic save folder extension for Firefox. Now let us look at some ways to clean and organize your Windows desktop.

Desktop Teleporter

Desktop Teleporter is a software that constantly keeps an eye on your desktop and quickly moves various files and items on the desktop into folders. You specify rules, and Desktop Teleporter waits for any new additions to your desktop. The rules are then applied to the new item and it ends up being moved from the desktop into the appropriate folder automatically.

The software doesn’t require installation, just click the executable and you can find it running in the system tray. By default it is configured to move everything except the items in the exclusion list from the desktop. So anything that you would like to remain on the desktop should be added to this exclusion list. The interface has a strange Mac OS-like feel, but then you don’t have to look at the UI often if the rules you specified are working as expected.

If you need greater control on the rules and want the magic on other folders as well, have a look at Belvedere.

Fences

Desktop Teleporter helps you move things from your desktop and organize them into other folders. If you would rather keep all the stuff on the desktop then I suggest you have a look into Fences. You can download and use the community (personal) edition of Fences for free, only thing is it starts bugging you after a month or so to re-install the latest version.

Fences lets you organize Windows desktop items into different categories. It does a great job and picks up items to put in different categories automatically. For the ones that are left out, you should evaluate if that item is worth being left on your desktop and then either move it or categorize it into one of the default categories.

In addition to that you can create your own categories and layouts. The thing with using Fences is that you can have a desktop full of junk and still make it look pretty. How is that you might wonder? Well just double-click on the desktop and Fences will hide all the icons and files on the desktop. Double-click again and you have them back.

While this may appeal to many, it is another reason for lazy people like me to dump everything on the desktop. After all who is going to see it?!

Wallpaper

The wallpaper can be very effective for de-cluttering and arranging items on your desktop. Drawing inspiration from some GTD wallpapers like these, you can easily create some for your screen resolution.

Creating such wallpapers is easy peasy. All you have to do is think about the various categories you would like to arrange your desktop items into. Then using any image editor create a new blank image, and then simply draw rectangles depicting the various categories. That is it, you are done at this point.

If you are feeling creative you can add different colors to the background, rectangles, some drop shadow perhaps and throw in a quote or line that gets you working. There you have it, your very own customized desktop de-clutterer that looks amazing. It is just like having virtual trays on your desktop on the screen.

So how do you keep your desktop neat and clean? Any special tools or tricks that you would like to share with us?

How To Use Handbrake To Attach Subtitles To A Movie File

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 08:31 AM PST

00 Handbrake logo-1.jpgIf you love watching movies and are willing to open your horizons a little bit, you should probably be aware that there are lives outside of Hollywood. Good movies come from all parts of the world.

But knowing is one thing and finding is another. Due to the concepts that we call marketing and profit, there are times when the only way to find good non-English movies is by doing treasure hunting on the net.  Most of the time, the treasures will still be in their original language.

As good as the movie might be, there’s no way of enjoying it if you don”t understand a single word the character says. Especially if the movie is the kind that relies heavily on dialogue.

The Search For Subtitles

The easiest way to enjoy movies in a foreign language is by finding subtitles and then attach subtitles – in your language – to the movie.  Even though there is no guarantee of the availability, subtitle files are surprisingly easy to find on the net. Just do some searching using “movie title” + “your preferred language” + “subtitle” as the search strings.

These subtitle files are actually text files with time codes. Basically, it tells the movie to display a certain text at a specified time. Two of the most common formats for subtitle files are “.srt” and “.sub”

There are already several articles about subtitles in MakeUseOf. You can read them here, here and here.

01 Movie Subtitle.jpg

Adding Subtitles The Soft Way

Using a common media player like Quicktime or VLC to play the movie, you can also display the subtitles simply by putting the subtitle file in the same folder with the movie. The only requirement is that both the movie and the subtitle files should go under the same name but with different extensions. Something like “title.avi” and “title.srt“.

02 Same name movie srt.jpg

Using this method, you can choose what language to display by changing the subtitle file inside the folder. But the method will not be effective if the movie file is edited as the subtitle will appear at the wrong time.

Another way to display subtitles is by making it a permanent part of the movie. This method is called hard-subbed and will guarantee the consistency of the subtitle even if the movie is edited. However, rendering subtitles on the movie will reduce video compression and it could not be turned off nor changed into another language.

The new version of Handbrake – the 64-bit build – that we discussed in the previous article comes with a feature called soft subtitles. This ability allows users to add subtitles as a part of the movie with the option to turn the subtitle on and off. Something like DVD movie subtitles.

If you already have both the movie file and the subtitle file, you can start adding soft subtitles to your movie.

  • Open Handbrake and choose the source.

03 Open Movie file.jpg

  • Open the Subtitles tab and click “Add external SRT” button.

Other players use slightly different names. Under Mac OS X, you can easily find the menu by going to the Help menu and typing “Subtitle“. You will be guided by the Help menu to find it.

View Your Firefox & Twitter Histories On A Timeline With Voyage

Posted: 17 Dec 2009 07:31 AM PST

vHeadHey there loyal readers! I have found another awesome experimental Firefox add-on. This one is called Voyage – you know like a journey. You can download the experimental add-on from this URL..

You will need to click the box next to the allow me to download this experimental add-on.

This add-on will give you a glimpse into your past. That is your Firefox browsing past. If you live in Firefox like me this is a very cool application. Let us know what you think of it after you try it out.

Once you have it installed, Firefox will restart and you will see this screen:

v1

You can scroll right to left to move backwards across your timeline. You use the Firefox arrow across the bottom of your browser to move through time. Kind of like a time machine but not really. You can view your Firefox history on a new type of chart where every website visit is logged and arrows are drawn to show you how you got from one site to another. Pretty cool stuff eh?

v2

Above you can see the first tier of my browsing history. The MakeUseOf icon is prominent alongside Lifehacker, Gmail, Twitter and AskTheAdmin.com.  If I click on one of the icons (which are the websites favicons) then it will show me my visits to that site and draw lines going to other sites I clicked through to.

Below you will see a Google search that links to product pages. I was searching for a 4204vi Hewlett Packard Switch.

If I needed to retrace my steps I could do so easily using this add on.

v3

Again you can see another Google search when you view Firefox history – this one was looking for a big calendar application and it pointed me to the sites that are linked off of it.

v4

Clicking on the box that shows the sites and searches will give you more details including search times, site visits and more. Awesome information for the information junkie. This can also help you write your bibliography for a school project by finding all the sites you visited and grabbed information from.

v6

Next up, let's integrate our Twitter history within Voyage. Look in the upper left hand corner and you will see a button labeled Enable Twitter Integration. Click on this to start the process.

v7

That will take you to the next screen telling you that you need Twitter’s authorization to have the data flow into Voyage. You will need to click the Sign in with Twitter button, log in and then you will get a seven digit pin code that will unlock the wall blocking Voyage from grabbing your data.

v8

You need to click Allow on the following screen. Then copy the pin number and paste it into the waiting Voyage window.

v9

That's it, now you will see your Twitter icon at the top next to the Voyage logo and your tweets will appear on the timeline as well – very very cool!

v10

I am playing around with this looking at old browsing history. I installed it on an old laptop to see what I was looking at and doing a few years back – also very cool. It is like a glance into your past.

Do you love the experimental addon's or not? Do you want to see more?  How do you use Voyage? Hit us up in the comments!
